Property Details
The apartment is a classic New York City Brownstone garden apartment with details dating back to 1898, including hardwood floors, exposed brick, and original moldings. You will also have access to private outdoor space in the back of the home. The unit has a heat pump for both cooling and heating. The laundry in the basement one floor below the apartment is free to use. Likely the best news: we are a 3 minute walk to the subway!
A little bit about us: We own the building and this is our apartment. We rent out the floors above. We leave every winter but come back for a couple of weeks in February. We would LOVE to find someone who wants the place from December 18 to April 30th who also wants to take a trip from Feb 10 to 28th (when we'll be back). Realistically, we figure we'll have one renter December 18 to February 10 and another March 1 to April 30th. The most important thing: we will only rent to people we meet and trust. This is our home. At best, we'll show you the place and chat. At minimum, we'll do a facetime call.
Some important things to note: Our Brownstone is 125 years old. It is not a brand new condominium. We've lived happily in the apartment for more than 20 years-- it is our cozy home. We are New Yorkers and we are used to the occasional quirks that come with living in the city and also in a building that is more than a century old. Like New York City itself, our apartment is not for everyone. This is a typical New York "railroad" garden apartment-- it is at street level, and as such, is not particularly bright. Also, the subway line runs under the street in front of the house. It creates a light, soothing rumble within the apartment. Most people acclimate to the soft rumble after a few hours to the point that they no longer recognize it, but those who are particularly sensitive should take note. Finally, we keep the place clean and use an exterminator, but it's New York--pest control is an ongoing battle for everyone. Welcome to New York! We want you to enjoy our place but to also have realistic expectations!
