This is a true 1-bedroom, 1-bath apartment on the 4th floor of a walk-up building. A brand new dishwasher, oven, and refrigerator were installed right before I moved in in June 2019. The bathroom was also re-done at this time with new tiling in the shower and on the floor, and the floors in the apartment were varnished. The landlord pays for hot water and heat. The tenant is responsible for electricity and cooking gas. My last utility bill for the month of December was under $40.
The building is pet friendly and the neighbors are all very nice! I had the pleasure of meeting the neighbors as I bumped into them while either entering or exiting the apartment, but otherwise, would never even know they existed because this building has thick walls. I mean it….I seriously miss how soundproof these walls were now that I’m in a different building. Tenants tend to either be students, faculty, or adults without kids.
There is no laundry within the building, however, there is a very reasonably priced laundry service offered right around the corner (about a 30 second walk from the building). Their hours are also great, opening at 7 a.m. so you can drop off before work in the morning, and closing at 7 p.m. so you can pick it up afterward. They also have more limited hours on Saturdays.
I never had any issues during my time in this apartment; I was very happy with my decision to live there. I originally lived in a 2-bedroom apartment just a 4-minute walk away. I loved the area so much, I was excited to find this 1-bedroom apartment as I was looking to stay in the area but live alone ?. Unfortunately, I had to re-locate for my job, which is why I am now posting the lease.
The management company/landlord are all very reasonable and helpful. I lost my keys a handful of times, needed a rent extension one month, and called to ask them countless questions, and they were always available and accommodating. The super is also around all the time. He lives in a neighboring building.
*** Note: picture of bathroom was taken before it was finished! Now has a white, finished windowsill there.
THE NEIGHBORHOOD:
The neighborhood is great with restaurants across the block on Broadway, and a 5-10 minute walk to Columbia, Riverside Park, and Morningside Park.
There are also tons of dining options and shops around the Columbia area. Some of my favorites were:
- Tom’s Restaurant (diner from Seinfeld)
- Absolute Bagels (so good that the line sometimes wrapped around the corner…you have to know the right time to go)
- Ellington in the Park (in Riverside Park)
- La Salle Dumpling Room (right across the street)
- The Ex Pat (fun bar right across the street)
- Dinosaur Barbeque (a 5-minute walk away and a personal favorite as it originated in my hometown! Great BBQ!)
- On warmer weekends, street vendors and farmers set up tents along the sidewalk around the Columbia area
COMMUTE:
3-minute walk to the 1 train stop at 125th St. and Broadway (or 10-minute walk to the stop at 116th and Broadway)
7-12 minute walk to the A/C and B/D lines
M4 and M11 busses stop right in front of the building
